Rekha Rodwittiya (b. 1958, Bangalore) is an artist, independent curator, writer, and teacher with over 40 years of experience in the field of art. Her practice is deeply rooted in a politically vigilant feminist perspective, focusing on the representation of the female figure in a non-voyeuristic manner. The stories of women who have overcome patriarchal oppression are central to her work, inspiring legacies that she chooses to emulate and imbibe. Rodwittiya remarks, “It is these many stories of feminist endeavor within which I have been cradled, that shape my perception to negotiate a journey of living, placing my energies to conjoin with these ancestries of determination and courage.”
Rodwittiya has held 39 solo exhibitions worldwide and has been part of over 130 group exhibitions, as well as 22 art fairs nationally and internationally. Her recent solo exhibitions include ‘We are meant to survive…beyond our stories’, Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai (2024); ‘Rekha@sixty: Transient Worlds of Belonging’, Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai (2018); ‘Songs from the Blood of the Weary (Dialogues of Peace)’, Jehangir Nicholson Gallery, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sanghralaya, Mumbai (2018) among others. In addition to her artistic practice, she is committed to art education through alternative, non-institutionalized methods and has served as a guest faculty member at art colleges in India and abroad.
