Neeraj Patel’s artistic practice centres primarily on the idea of movement in architectural spaces. This notion of movement is not physical: instead it refers to specific ideas such as duration, deterioration, governance and (in)accessibility. His interest lies in finding intermediate spaces that hold layered imagery. The idea is not limited to the simple present; rather, he employs tools such as history, memory and behavioural pattern to complicate the present. Responding to the effects of industrial goods in architectural spaces, Neeraj layers cultural conditioning and historicity on the architectural spaces of his making.
The recent body of works are an amalgamation of Neeraj’s artistic practice from last 5 years. The new body of works refer to the idea of intersections and disruptions at large. The core of the works are about generating different forms of aesthetics and experiential visualities, which can challenge ways in which our perspective is being structured in architectural settings. This set of work is extremely important the way they incorporate paper as a material to create such abstract industrialscapes. At different levels these works blur the lines between drawing and sculpture, and very interestingly gives a sculptural experience with the nuances of drawing.
The series of work, an attempt to create a sense of dystopia landscape, which give a sense of historical dioramas and various forms of distorted realities. Staring with the perspective through obstacles to the ways how they have submerged in the behavioural experience and a normalised feeling of being stuck in between, these works at multiple levels share unknown points of seeing and existing.
