Dakshayani Chippada
(b. 1998, Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh)
"My works showcase the evolution of relationships over time and how they affect, reflect, and present personal and collective experiences with objects and spaces. My practice focuses on giving character to objects and spaces that evoke a sense of belonging and passage, absence and existence, speaking of the histories and memories within present possibilities.
My works delve into the profound realm of human experiences and whimsically interact with the ephemeral essence of recollections. They notably exclude any human presence, allowing objects/spaces to become subjects that function as extensions of the self, reminding us of social interactions and other moments in our lives.
I explore how these memories/experiences are presented through the mediums of drawing and weaving."
Dakshayani Chippada completed her BFA in Printmaking from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam (2019) and MFA in Printmaking from Maharaja Saiyajirao University, Baroda (2021). In the current series, the artist showcases how changes in relationships over time affect her current situations, reflecting on her personal and collective experiences. This includes joyless festivals, weary anticipations, faded memories, and detached relations—all these emotions experienced by her are represented through objects and spaces. The shift from her native place to the metropolitan city of Baroda changed many things as she adapted to this new environment. She observes how over time, with changing perspective, things are remembered differently. She is exploring her memories and presenting them through drawing, using lines and dots. Her works deliberately exclude any human presence as she incorporates mundane objects as they serve as extensions of oneself, as reminders of social interactions and significant moments in one's lives. Through these works, she aims to demonstrate how objects and spaces hold memories and express a sense of self. Her works combine the subjective and objective, shaping how we perceive and relate to certain memories.
Her recent exhibitions include, ‘India Art fair’ with 1Shantiroad Studio, Bangalore (2024); ‘1x1x9’, Vis a Vis Studio, Baroda (2023); ‘Rekindled Spirits’, Curated by Ruby Jagrut, Abir First Take, Bikaner House, New Delhi (2022); ‘Lines, Stains, Grids and Words’, Modern Art Gallery (2022) among others.
She currently lives and works in Baroda.
