His metier, scale, and handling of the medium is an inventive revalidation of the vernacular tradition of the country, with a contemporary ethos. As a result of this approach the expression exhibits and derives a vitality and energy of its own. The scale and the luminosity of colors along with the treatment of the surface quality provide a uniqueness to his creations and make his work stand apart.‘What we see to a very large extent is self-created’ meanings always accompany sensations and methodology is born out of necessity. The larger-than-life heads that he is identified and synonymous with are a result of a progression of ideas and experiments, with the nuances of nature on one side, and the development of a personal iconography on the other. His deep observation of life around him has remained his main source of inspiration throughout his career. It continues to provide possibilities of its utilization and interpretation, as a realized experience, concretized in his works.Ravinder has imbibed and inculcated the best from his educational background at the prestigious M.S. University of Baroda, the Goldsmiths’ College of Arts as well as the Royal College of Art, London, a synthesis of both worlds.
